How to Clean a Beanbag Chair Without Damaging the Cover

Removable covers, fixed covers, foam inserts, and bead-filled liners need different treatment. Begin with the label on your exact chair.

Identify the part you are cleaning

The outer cover, inner liner, and filling are separate parts. A washable cover does not mean the entire chair can go into a washing machine. Before using water or detergent, identify the fabric, the removable components, and the instructions supplied with your exact model.

Photograph the care label while it is accessible. Keep the product name and cover choice in the same note. Two fabrics sold for the same beanbag may have different care instructions, especially when a brand offers decorative or specialty finishes.

Choose the right route

For a removable cover, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for opening it, removing it, and washing it. Lovesac publishes separate cleaning instructions for covers; those instructions are more useful than applying a generic beanbag-cleaning routine. Check the drying method as carefully as the washing step.

For a fixed or spot-clean-only cover, use the permitted cleaning method and test an unobtrusive area first. Fatboy’s care guidance distinguishes between product versions. An instruction for a removable fabric cover should not automatically be applied to its wipe-clean designs.

Keep the filling contained

Choose a clear work area before removing the outer cover. Keep children and pets away from open liners, loose fill, packaging, and cleaning supplies. If the liner is torn or a closure no longer works as intended, stop using the chair until you have manufacturer guidance.

Avoid soaking an insert in an attempt to reach a stain through the cover. If liquid has entered the filling, ask the manufacturer how to handle that particular material. A dry-looking outer surface does not establish that the interior has dried.

Reassemble only when ready

Make sure every part that is supposed to be dry has dried fully according to its instructions. Align the cover before pulling hard on a zipper; forcing a tight or twisted cover can create a second problem while solving the first. Restore any locking mechanism exactly as specified.

Use the cleaning session to inspect seams and attachment points. For frequent spills, a compatible spare cover may be more practical than repeatedly improvising a cleaning method. If replacement covers are important to you, confirm their availability before buying the chair rather than assuming every brand sells them separately.
