Why the 8ft Fuf is narrower than the Cocoon 6

Big Joe’s current size guide lists the Fuf 8ft at approximately 68 inches wide, 54 inches deep and 39 inches high, weighing about 73 pounds. Its eight feet runs diagonally from a back top corner to a front bottom corner. Jaxx lists the flat Cocoon 6 at 72 by 72 by 20 inches and 55 pounds.

On those measurements, the Cocoon is four inches wider and 18 inches deeper, while the Fuf is 19 inches taller. That explains the apparent contradiction in the names. One is a taller mound; the other spreads across a wider area at a lower listed height. Neither height is the height of an occupied seat.

For a rough planning envelope, the Fuf’s width-by-depth rectangle is 25.5 square feet; the Cocoon’s is 36 square feet. Those are our calculations from the listed dimensions, not measured upholstery contact areas. The Cocoon is rounded, and both forms move with use. Add walking space, foot space and furniture clearance to either envelope.

Choose the viewing position before the fabric

Jaxx describes the Cocoon as a shredded-foam cushion inside a protective liner, usable flat or propped up. The Fuf uses shredded flexible polyurethane foam and needs occasional redistribution. Both therefore require room for adjustment as well as room for sitting.

For television, mock up the viewing position near floor level before ordering the Cocoon. Check whether a coffee table blocks the lower part of the screen and whether subtitles are easy to see. For the Fuf, consider whether its taller form will interrupt a walkway or the view from another chair. Published product height cannot predict your seated eye level.

Shared lounging deserves its own check. Decide whether two people want to curl up together or keep separate positions with independent access to a table. One large cushion is not automatically equivalent to two chairs. In a group movie room, smaller individual seats may make it easier to leave halfway through a film without disturbing someone else.

Where each model makes more sense

The main advantages are different enough that there is no universal winner. Prioritize the arrangement you will use most often.

Removable does not always mean machine washable

Big Joe permits cold washing and air drying for most Fuf covers, but identifies Premium Vegan Leather as spot-clean only. Check the selected fabric. Jaxx sells a machine-washable Cocoon 6 replacement cover, which gives owners a model-specific replacement route.

Look at the whole laundry task before counting a washable cover as effortless upkeep. You need somewhere for the large insert to sit, a suitable machine and drying arrangement, and room to put the cover back on. Follow the chosen fabric’s label. Do not put a filled foam insert into a washing machine because its outer cover is washable.

Make the final comparison at the room, not the product name

Tape both outlines on the floor, leave them there for a day and check access to doors, storage and power outlets. Decide where the fully expanded chair will live before opening the package. Include the route to that room and the help you may need to move bulky foam furniture.
